My blogging has slowed down because we’re in the middle of an apartment hunt and it’s been pretty rough going. The worst part is even after you find the place, the worst is still ahead because that’s when all the manual labor starts. Not looking forward to this at all.

My “I Wish I Could Hug The World” Tee made it on Threadless.com! Threadless, for those that have never visited the site, is a site where designers can submit their own clothing and print illustrations and have them voted on for a chance to have them printed.

Please visit and vote, it would mean a lot to me. There are only a few days of voting available, and it only takes a few seconds, so don’t wait!

Here’s a quick, simple graphic t-shirt I cooked up. It probably works best as a girls-tee, hence the hot pink but I think it could work on any color. There is an accompanying illustration that will go with the shirt that I’m still working on, so look out for that.

I got some feedback from some female friends and some weren’t feeling the hot pink so I included a mock-up of the black version as well since we all know black goes with everything.

Here is Cooper Union building for the Advancement of Science and Art that Catherine helped get built, the architecture is pretty crazy and modern for the city. I can’t even imagine the amount of red tape involved in getting something like this constructed in New York City since to get a 150 px by 100 px thumbnail image updated at my job we have to CC about 4 people.

This is the poster version that was  created just for Catherine, it’s still a work in progress (I think), but hopefully when done, I plan to make a print and frame it for her.

Update: I updated the poster a bit to use the new illustration of Catherine.

An Illustration I worked on for Catherine, this version is in the process of being adapted for a two or three color t-shirt.

Much like my love for tenuously-plotted action movies (I’m looking at you, Terminator Salvation and Kill Bill), I also have a kind of fondness for design that has no other purpose than to “look pretty”, not every solution has (or needs) a problem, in my opinion.

With that in mind, I took a crack at another poster design with the idea of taking lyrics from a song and expressing them visually in a way I normally might not if I were trying to design to solve a problem.

What you see above are the results, and in fact two different posters. The one of the left is probably more in tune with where I may have let it go normally. It’s simple and it gets the point across (if there is a point to get across), and calls it a night. On the right, I decided to experiment with various techniques (layering, brush textures, transparency, etc.) to come with something completely different and more bleak without altering the initial structure of the poster.

I’m not sure which I like more, but I felt like I learned more working on the second one.

I was challenged by a friend to do something in tribute to Ida (AKA: The Missing Link), which he is completely obsessed with. If you don’t recognize the reference, check out the video below and then watch the damn movie already! You can read up about Ida at the National Geographic site.

More of a technical exercise than anything else, but this is something I did for work that never ended up being used so I thought I might as well post it here. It’s done in Adobe Illustrator (which I’m starting to love) and is meant to be concept ideas for a prize piece as part of a bigger project we are working on.
