Yeah, I admit it, I have no willpower what-so-ever. I will give my self credit for at least considering the situation carefully before picking up an iPhone. I know damn well what I’m getting myself into, and I also know 600 for a phone is somewhat insane, but at this point, I could care less. I know all of the iPhone’s weaknesses and that it is entirely possible there will be a new version in under a year, and I still don’t care.
After seeing countless commercials, and reading countless articles, and doing my own share of bashing, I just could resist the thing.

I believe it’s my dad’s 51st birthday today, I say “I believe”, because my family has never been very big on actually remembering how old we each are. We pretty much just celebrate the day rather than the number, I blame my mom for this, she disguised her age for years, to the point where I couldn’t tell you with certainty how old she really is, and I’m her son.
Anyway, I haven’t actually bought my dad anything on a holiday for years, he’s very practical, the type of person that would get more use out of a good jucier than something expensive and useless. I decided to try and split the difference by buying him a nice pen, something chic and minimal that still had a practical uses.
I decided to go with a Lamby 2000 Fountain Pen, the price wasn’t ridiculous, but I really like the modern look of the pen and the few reviews I read about the writing quality all said good things. I paid a little extra to get it engraved, but I’m hoping he likes it.

Here’s Baron in all his B&W glory, he’s very photogenic, that dog. The technique I blogged about below seems to work pretty well, I don’t think I’ve ever created a B&W digital image that looked this sharp.

Most people just turn the photo grayscale and say the jobs done, but here is an easy way to producing better B&W images from your color photos. You’ll have to scroll towards the bottom of the page to get to the tutorial. I used it just tonight to convert a few photos for framing, prints out great.

I love every thing about it. I know it’s only a concept, and I have been known to compare concept cars to a form of masturbation, but this is one of those few concepts you know will make it to the showroom relatively in tact since it doesn’t look like a spaceship. You can find more pictures and more info at Autoblog.

I was browsing through Flickr to kill time and came upon a set of photos and stories about the homeless by an amazing photographer, Tom Stone, who goes by the Flickr handle Stoneth. The image above is just one of many, and there’s a story that goes with every picture (as there tends to be). Be warned, they are someone what depressing due to the subject matter but it’s a nice dose of reality. The people we pass on the street and do our best to ignore all have a story about how they ended up there.
I’ve never really been brave enough to ask people to take their portrait on the street, especially not homeless people, but seeing art like this makes me want to work up the courage.
